The energy that people waste hurts the environment. Over 70% of the energy produced for transportation, like cars, is wasted and about 20% of the energy used in our house is wasted. Grab a notebook and a clever disguise and find the ways energy is wasted in the world around you. When you have gathered up all the evidence, show your parents, and help them make smart changes. Here are some things to investigate:
- Can we use public transit instead of a car?
- Who is leaving lights on in rooms that aren’t being used?
- What are the other ways you can travel besides a car?
- When should appliances get unplugged?
- Why is the water running so long in the bathroom or in the kitchen?
- Where is the nearest place to recycle paper, glass, and plastic?
- How come the car is running if nobody is moving?

So fellow detective, be sneaky and always be on the lookout. Find the answers to the clues that will help make your world a better place.
