Bell:

Ring! Ring!  Make sure that drivers and other bikers always know that you are sharing the road.

Hand brakes: These are easy-to-reach brakes to avoid an accident.
Headlights: They should always been turned on after sunset.
Helmet Never forget to wear your helmet when riding your bike—this will keep you safe if you fall.
Seat Make sure that your seat is adjusted to the right height, and is securely fastened.
Tail light: This safety feature is visible from over 600 feet!
Tires: Try to avoid a flat tire by riding on sidewalks and not in the street.

  • For safety, only one person should be on a bike at one time (unless an extra seat is installed).
  • Do not carry any items when riding a bike.  At least one hand should be on the handlebars at all times.  Instead, install a basket or store your stuff safely in a backpack to leave your hands and arms free.
  • Every bike should have working brakes.
  • Every bike needs reflectors and a working headlight when it is dark outside. To be extra safe, wear reflective clothing, too.
