Welcome to the Kid's Korner of drive less live more. Each day, a person breathes around 35 pounds of air and takes about 20,000 breaths! But did you know that there are many things that pollute our air and make it dangerous to out health? Cars and trucks are a big part of the problem. Also, onstruction equipment, emissions from power plants, airplanes, and even fumes from paint can dirty the air! If you ride your bike or choose to walk, you will be helping the air stay clean and healthy. Carpooling also helps because it takes cars off the road. The next time you’re headed to a baseball game, recital, sleepover or school, ask your parents to carpool to help keep the air clean. Doesn’t that sound fun?

Activism: The decision to change a particular social, environmental, or political issue.  You can be an activist against air pollution.

Air Pollution:  The human introduction of chemicals into the air that damages the environment.  Do you want to live in a city with a lot of air pollution?

Carbon Footprint:  The measure of the impact human activities has on the environment.  This impact is measured by the amount of green house gases produced.  What is your carbon footprint?

Global Warming:  Global warming refers to an average increase in the earth’s temperature, which causes climate change.  A warmer earth may lead to changes in the sea level, rainfall patterns, a loss of glaciers, and other negative impacts on wildlife and humans.  If there were no glaciers, where would the polar bears live?

Pollutants:  Substances not naturally found in the air or that are found at greater concentrations in the air.  Can you give an example of a pollutant?

Telecommute:  To work from home and therefore not take a car or bus to work.  Telecommuting is fun, and you can stay in your pajamas all day!
